About The Broken Poet

The idea of The Broken Poet comes from the Japanese art form of kintsugi,
embracing the imperfections of life.
Just like the pottery that becomes more beautiful mended with gold, the poet
puts the words, stanzas and verses together in such a way that the broken parts
of their life, and the lives of others, events in the world without and within are
presented as beauty rediscovered through their literary value as an art form.

ABOUT BEVERLEY BECKLEY

As a young girl I moved to Canada from England with my parents in 1972 and
settled in Red Deer Alberta. While still in High School, I attended a creative writing
course at Red Deer College and was encouraged to pursue my creative goals. It
took some time as ordinary life intervened but I wrote non-stop and began a

Bachelor of Arts in English, completed in 1999. Under the tutelage of Birk Sproxton and Ted Dyck I turned from fiction to poetry. Since then I have
continued to write poetry extensively.

Writer’s Statement

I am a writer, author and maker. I love, live to create. I love words, I love using them in unique ways, I crave metaphor, and imagery is my glory. I find poetry gives me the ability to weave my words and use them in ways one does not in other genres. I began poetry to make my prose writing more colorful while still in college and soon poetry took over the scene. Although I continue to work on
some adult fiction, I remain dedicated to producing poetry. I use my poetry to draw attention to social issues of our time as well the inner world of emotions (usually mine). As writer I am currently creating indie chapbooks and it is my intention to start a revival of the old forms, chapbook and broadsheet while also embracing the digital world of the eBook. I greatly enjoy sharing my work with the local community not only through self published chapbooks but by reading and performing. In the summer I like to get out and perform on stages at events and local venues. Sometimes I may read from my work and sometimes I will rap and improve poetry on the spot. My latest work is the chapbook “The
Little Bones” to commemorate, honor and respect those children who lost their lives or survived residential schools in Canada, inspired by the discovery of the 215 in Kamloops.

The Little Bones

My latest work is the chapbook “The Little Bones” to commemorate, honor and
respect those children who lost their lives or survived residential schools in
Canada, inspired by the discovery of the 215 in Kamloops. The book is meant to address not only this event but also contains poetry about the 60’s scoop and residential schools.

A portion of the proceeds of the sale of this chapbook will go to benefit the Remembering the Children Society, Red Deer, Alberta, for their work of reclamation and preservation of the local Indian Residential School and memorials.
